Campbell River, old friends and Buttle Lake…

From Nanaimo we were going to head West to Tofino and thought it would be great to visit an old friend of Linda’s in Campbell River.

Buttle Lake - Campbell river camp

We stayed at the Thunderbird RV Park so that we could do all the exploring. We did have a nice view behind us and there was a trail on the spit.

Buttle Lake - behind the campground

We met up with John at the campground and it was great to get together. He offered to take us up to Buttle Lake as the views were spectacular.

Rain and fog were fairly constant when we picked up John at his house and drove out to the lake. Linda and I thought that the fog was beautiful and John said wait until the fog lifts and you see the mountains.

Magically the fog started to lift and we were treated to these views.

Buttle Lake - mountains

This water level of this lake rose 5 meters (more than 15 feet) because in the 1950’s the upper Campbell river was dammed. This created these interesting tree stumps.

On the drive we also found this view.

Finally down to Gold River.

Buttle Lake - Air Nootka

Why this Newfoundland boat is here…we don’t know, it must have been a long journey though.

Off to Tofino next….
