Still searching for warmth…ended up in San Antonio, TX

The temperatures kept dropping and we didn’t want to go below freezing before heading up to Ontario…San Antonio, Texas was warm enough.

This post will take us to February 28th in the catch up post.

We stopped at Fort Stockton RV for one night…a great clean park with good facilities.

Fort Stockton Chicken Fried Steak

This was the only photo we took at that camp. We were very hungry. The campground reviews suggested the on-property restaurant was good; especially the Chicken Fried Steak. Neither of us had ever had this dish.  We thought it was delicious and would definitely try it again.

San Antonio - KOA with kat

We wanted to be able to leave the trailer and even the truck to go exploring. The KOA San Antonio was highly reviewed and was on a bus route. We booked for a couple of nights with a hold for a third night; they accommodated us. Puck was so happy to be out again.

San Antonio - Pierre on the bicycle

We got our bikes out and found a trail.

San Antonio - trail map

This was a good trail to wander on our bikes. The KOA hosts told us it was 7 miles one way and about 1 1/2 the other.

San Antonio - Riding on the trail

We rode…both directions to be sure.

San Antonio - Pond on the trail

We found this serene pond.

San Antonio - Linda and water on the trail

And a water fountain.

San Antonio - Turtles on the trail

Turtles sunning themselves.

San Antonio - Pierre on Bike at the Bridge

Pierre watching the turtles.

San Antonio - Alaskand and Airstream

There was a big beautiful Airstream trailer, being towed by a truck with an Alaskan hard sided pop up truck camper. We had looked at both of these prior to the Escape Trailer…

San Antonio - the Alamo Selfie

We took the bus for $1.30 to downtown. The bus stop was just outside of the KOA. The courteous driver told us where to get off and how to get to the Alamo…a well worth visiting historic site.

San Antonio - The Alamo pano

I managed to get an almost people-free shot.

San Antonio - Riverwalk

The River Walk was recommended by the KOA staff and online.

San Antonio - Riverwalk pierre

Linda wanted to take a photo of Pierre…can’t help the pose.

San Antonio - Riverwalk pierre eating

We were hungry and a local security guard suggested this place called Cafe Ole. We had the shrimp fajita for two…very good, but the margaritas were great!

San Antonio - Riverwalk lunch

We managed to have our server take a photo … the selfie arm could’t stretch far enough.

San Antonio - Riverwalk opposite Villieta

We had to work lunch off so we continued on the walk…The photo was taken from the audience portion of the stage.

San Antonio - Riverwalk the cattle drive

Saw this sculpture of a cattle drive.

San Antonio - Riverwalk Streetcar Station

We passed the Riverwalk Streetcar Station…no streetcar…just a tourist version of a trolley on rubber tires.

San Antonio - Riverwalk pierre at Villita

Linda made me post this…all I see is the lunch tummy.

San Antonio - The San Fernando Cathedral

The San Fernando Cathedral.

San Antonio - San Fernanado Cathedral tomb

The tomb of the Alamo Heroes.

San Antonio - San Fernando Cathedral tombstone

The Tombstone of Travis, Crockett and Bowie.

San Antonio - San Fernando Cathedral interior

Inside the Cathedral.

San Antonio - Trees and moon

Back at camp…we had pizza that they make at the campground and it was warm enough to sit outside and dine. The moon was beautiful through the trees. We did make one mistake and annoyed some ants…

San Antonio - Linda foot with ant bites

They took revenge on Linda’s foot!

We checked the weather and started the northbound journey.
